Frequently Asked Questions
What is in-home euthanasia?
In-home euthanasia allows your pet to pass peacefully in the comfort and familiarity of home. A veterinarian visits your home to provide a calm, compassionate experience surrounded by loved ones, minimizing fear and stress for both you and your pet.
How do I know when it’s time?
Deciding when to say goodbye can be very difficult. Signs that your pet may be nearing the end include pain that can’t be managed, loss of appetite, difficulty walking or breathing, or a loss of interest in things they once enjoyed. Your veterinarian can help assess your pet’s quality of life and guide you through this decision.
What happens during the visit?
Your veterinarian will first take time to meet your pet and explain each step of the process. A calming sedative is given to help your pet relax and fall asleep peacefully. Once they are resting comfortably, the final injection is administered, which is gentle and painless. You’ll be able to stay with your pet throughout the entire process if you wish.
How long does the appointment take?
Most visits last about 45 minutes to an hour. This includes time for discussion, preparation, and time afterward for you to say goodbye privately.
Can other family members or pets be present?
Yes. Family members, friends, and even other pets are welcome to be present. Many families find comfort in being together, and allowing other pets to say goodbye can sometimes help them understand the loss.
What should I do to prepare?
Choose a quiet, comfortable spot where your pet feels most at ease—perhaps their favorite bed or a sunny spot by the window. You can play music, light a candle, or have a blanket or toy nearby—whatever feels right for you.
What happens afterward?
After the euthanasia, you may choose from several aftercare options. The veterinarian can help arrange cremation (private or communal) or you may choose home burial where permitted. Paw prints and fur clippings can also be provided as keepsakes if you wish.
Can I stay with my pet afterward?
Absolutely. You may spend as much time as you need with your pet after they’ve passed. There is no rush.
Do you offer cremation or memorial options?
Yes. We partner with trusted local cremation services that handle each pet with care and respect. Options include private cremation with ashes returned, communal cremation or burial. Keepsake urns, paw prints, and fur clippings are also available.
Can you help if my pet passes away at home?
Yes. We can assist with aftercare arrangements even if your pet has already passed. Please contact us, and we can help with transport and cremation options.
